I was thinking about the problems newcomers to Canada face when trying to setup a business. In past articles I’ve talked about cultural differences, support groups and finding a business you can relate to probably from past experience or skills you’ve learned in your home country.

I think it is important to discuss the planning of your business, the strategies defining your market and the method in which you will approach the necessary steps in setting up your new business as an entrepreneur.

My Friend Nick Noorani, www.nicknoorani.com, announced he has left the Toronto Star’s Canadian Immigrant Magazine.
He’s the first to tell you it was time to go and it was good for both sides.
Nick was the Founder and Publisher of The Canadian Immigrant Magazine and author of the best seller Arrival Survival Canada. He’s been a sought after speaker, writer and media personality from CTV’s Canada AM to the CBC’s The National. He won the 2006 Entrepreneur of the Year Award for his ‘new’ venture The Canadian Immigrant Magazine which he started in a tiny office on Commercial Drive in Vancouver’s east side. My good friend Miguel has a Masters in Computer Science and was a Professor of Computer Science at the University of Mexico City yet he can’t have his qualifications recognized in Canada. Future Shop must be really satisfied with all the professionals they happily employ.
